Epic Games retaliated against Apple after being threatened
Tensions between the two tech giants have escalated and show no sign of stopping.
Epic Games announced that it will host a tournament called #FreeFortnite on August 23. Players using Android devices and Windows computers can participate in this tournament. Meanwhile, iOS users will not be able to participate.
Tournament participants will have the opportunity to receive a variety of rewards including gaming equipment, some exclusive outfits and especially the Apple Man Tart Tycoon character. This character is designed with an apple head. This is seen as a response from Epic Games to Apple.
Recently, Apple has threatened to revoke access to developer tools on iOS and Mac platforms. This includes removing the Unreal Engine toolkit developed by Epic Games. Apple only stopped when Epic removed the payment option in the Fortnite game. Epic Games also revealed that Apple is setting a deadline for the company until August 28.
In a recent statement, Apple insists that their App Store is supposed to be a safe place for iOS users as well as a promising environment to develop for game companies. Epic Games is one of the most successful developers on the App Store as they have grown into a multi-billion dollar business and reach millions of customers using iOS platforms around the world.
This war started on August 14. Epic Games has released the latest version of Fortnite for Android and iOS users. From there, gamers can pay Epic through Fortnite instead of the payment systems of Google and Apple. Therefore, Fornite was removed from the app store by Apple and Google.
In addition, Epics Games also accused Apple of monopoly in distributing applications. They argue that iOS apps can only be distributed through the App Store, which can give Apple more power and make it difficult for app developers to release and distribute their apps.
