How Do Developers Solve Game Hacks and Cheats? (part 2)
This game is getting more and more intense as Steam has continuously broken the record for the number of players at the same time due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. A new wave of gamers has arrived, and with that, the number of cheaters and hackers has increased. Developers are taking more unique measures but one of them has caused much controversy.
Infinity Ward has cheated on themselves, to see whose cheat software is better. More than 70,000 accounts have been banned and developers of Call of Duty: Warzone have also stated that they are not easy on fraudsters. The people behind the recent Apex Legends – Respawn Entertainment game are also facing a lot of difficulties. After banning more than 350,000 accounts last year, hackers figured out how to bypass Easy Anti-cheat, the anti-fraud software that Apex Legends is using.
PUBG has also spent months addressing this situation. They primarily focus on cheaters, making them unsupported. PUBG is constantly innovating its code to protect itself, but there’s no denying that cheat programmers are always adaptable and bypass this protection.
Other games like Overwatch or Destiny 2 also saw an increase in fraud. Cheating became a serious problem since Destiny 2 became a free game six months ago. The gaming community of this game expressed anger at the slow response from Bungie. One player even caught caught using a cheat to hack a wall on a twitch and was quickly banned from the game.
Blizzard discovered two Aimbots tools, Xion and Pentagon, in the Overwatch game about 6 months ago. They made a promise that the next two major patches will completely solve the fraud problem in January. Some gamers also become virtual police in the game. The Overwatch Police Department was set up to infiltrate hacker networks and underground cheaters, find and crack new hacked software. A hobby for the participants and an exciting part of the fight against fraud.
With more and more titles starting to be available for free download, developers have to take into account that fraudsters only need to create a new account if banned. This is a particularly difficult problem for battle royale titles, with the feature that allows players to quickly enter the match after creating a new account.
